End of First Session
of 125th Legislature Mailer

Read BILL SUMMARIES From the Second Session of the 124th Maine State Legislature

Dear Residents of House District 108,

The Second Session of the 125th Maine Legislature was called to order on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. This session is our short session and primarily handles unfinished business from the First Session, additional "emergency" legislation and other appropriate business such as any supplemental budgets.

This session we have 134 carry over bills in addition to 300 plus new bills that have been approved for discussion. But finding a way to bridge a $221 million Department of Health and Human Services shortfall promises to be the major challenge for us. Having said that, legislators from both sides of the aisle demonstrated last session that we were able to work together on behalf of the people of Maine. I hope that same spirit of bi-partisanship will prevail in the upcoming session. You can read more about the proposed budget here.

Things happen fast as session begins, so I have also included a few helpful reference links to keep you up to date on activities in Augusta. Remember, if you need help anytime regarding state matters, don't hesitate to contact me (e-mail is the best way during session).

Thank you for the honor of representing you in Augusta!

Cordially,

Rep. Meredith Strang Burgess
State House Representative District 108
Cumberland, Long Island, Chebeague
Island and part of North Yarmouth
